Cline

Cline connects to OpenCheap through its OpenAI Compatible provider: the base URL, a key and a model id.

A native OpenCheap provider is proposed upstream.

What you need

  • Base URLhttps://api.opencheap.si/v1
  • API keyA kl_live_… key from the console, kept in OPENCHEAP_API_KEY.
  • ModelAn id from Models, for example claude-sonnet-5.

In VS Code

  1. 1
    Open Cline's settings.
Click the gear icon in the Cline panel.
  2. 2
Set API Provider to OpenAI Compatible.
  3. 3
    Paste the Base URL.
    https://api.opencheap.si/v1
  4. 4
Paste your key into API Key.
  5. 5
    Choose the Model ID.
Once the Base URL and key are in, Cline reads https://api.opencheap.si/v1/models and offers the ids as a list. Pick one, or choose "Use custom model ID…" and type it, for example claude-sonnet-5.

Under Model Configuration, Context Window Size and Max Output Tokens can be set to the values on the Models page. Cline works through tool calls, so choose a model that supports them.

In the terminal

The Cline CLI takes the same three values in one command. Run it once, then start a task:

npm install -g cline
cline auth -p openai-compatible -k "$OPENCHEAP_API_KEY" -m claude-sonnet-5 -b https://api.opencheap.si/v1
cline "Read README.md and summarise it"

cline auth saves the provider, so later runs need no flags. -m on a run picks another model for that session.

What was checked

Run on October 28, 2026 with Cline CLI 3.0.74 on claude-sonnet-5: cline auth as above, then a task that read a file through a tool call and answered. The VS Code steps are taken from the settings screen in Cline's source (4.1.26) and its OpenAI Compatible documentation; the extension itself was not run.
