Open WebUI

Open WebUI connects to any OpenAI-compatible server. Add OpenCheap as a connection with its base URL and your key.

What you need

  • Base URLhttps://api.opencheap.si/v1
  • API keyA kl_live_… key from the console, kept in OPENCHEAP_API_KEY.
  • ModelAn id from Models, for example claude-sonnet-5.

Add the connection

  1. 1
Open Settings, then Admin, then Connections.
    Find Manage OpenAI API Connections.
  2. 2
    Click Add Connection.
  3. 3
Fill in the URL and the API Key.
    URL https://api.opencheap.si/v1, and your key.
  4. 4
    Choose the models.
Click Verify Connection: Open WebUI calls https://api.opencheap.si/v1/models with your key. The list holds every model OpenCheap serves, including ones that do not chat. Type the ids you want into Model IDs (with the + icon) to show only those.
  5. 5
    Click Save.
The models appear in the model selector.

With environment variables

When you start Open WebUI yourself, it can be given the connection up front:

docker run -d -p 3000:8080 -v open-webui:/app/backend/data \
  -e OPENAI_API_BASE_URL=https://api.opencheap.si/v1 \
  -e OPENAI_API_KEY=$OPENCHEAP_API_KEY \
  --name open-webui --restart always ghcr.io/open-webui/open-webui:main
Open WebUI reads these two variables on its first launch only. After that it uses the values saved in Admin Settings, so change the connection there, or set ENABLE_PERSISTENT_CONFIG=False to make the variables win on every start.

What was checked

The steps, field names and variables are from Open WebUI's own documentation (v0.12.4 is current); the app itself was not run. Its Verify Connection call, GET https://api.opencheap.si/v1/models with a bearer key, was run against the API and returns the model list.
