Roo Code

Roo Code connects to OpenCheap through its OpenAI Compatible provider: the base URL, a key and a model id.

What you need

  • Base URLhttps://api.opencheap.si/v1
  • API keyA kl_live_… key from the console, kept in OPENCHEAP_API_KEY.
  • ModelAn id from Models, for example claude-sonnet-5.
Roo Code's repository was archived on May 15, 2026. Its last release is 3.54.0, and the steps below are from that release's documentation.

In VS Code

  1. 1
    Open Roo Code's settings.
Click the settings icon in the Roo Code panel.
  2. 2
Set API Provider to OpenAI Compatible.
  3. 3
    Paste the Base URL.
    https://api.opencheap.si/v1
  4. 4
Paste your key into API Key.
  5. 5
    Choose the Model.
Use an id from the Models page, for example claude-sonnet-5.

Model Configuration holds Max Output Tokens and Context Window, which can be set to the values on the Models page. Roo Code uses native tool calling only, with no XML fallback, so the model must support tool calls.

What was checked

The setup is taken from Roo Code's own documentation for its OpenAI Compatible provider; the extension was not run. What Roo Code sends was run against the API directly: a streamed chat completion with a tool definition and stream_options.include_usage on claude-sonnet-5 and qwen3-coder came back as a tool call with a usage chunk.
