Kilo Code
Kilo Code takes OpenCheap as a custom provider of the OpenAI Compatible kind. No plugin is needed.
A native OpenCheap provider is proposed upstream.
What you need
In VS Code
- 1Open Settings and go to Providers.Scroll to the bottom and click Custom provider.
- 2Fill in the dialog.Provider ID
opencheap, Display nameOpenCheap, Provider APIOpenAI Compatible, Base URLhttps://api.opencheap.si/v1, and your key in API key. - 3Fetch the models.Click Fetch models. Kilo Code asks
https://api.opencheap.si/v1/modelswith your key and lists what it finds; search, select the chat models you want, and add them. - 4Click Submit. The models appear in the model picker under OpenCheap.
The list holds every model OpenCheap serves, including ones that do not chat. Add only chat models, and ones that support tool calls, for agent work.
In the terminal
The CLI reads the same provider from kilo.json in the project, or ~/.config/kilo/kilo.json, with the key in OPENCHEAP_API_KEY.

What was checked
Run on October 28, 2026 with Kilo Code CLI 7.8.18 and the kilo.json above: kilo run read a file through a tool call on claude-sonnet-5 and answered. The VS Code steps and field names are from the custom provider dialog in Kilo Code's source; the extension itself was not run.
